Senate

Giving thanks to guys like FBI agent Robert Grant and THE AMERICAN NEWSPAPER post BLAGO — election 2008 — !

You know, it makes me feel a lot better right now as an American, to know that there are guys like Robert Grant.  I’ve never seen such a pile of corruption in my life in an election season.  Not like this year.  How can Americans have faith in ANY POLITICIAN at this point?

There is a bigger problem though, that really needs to be addressed in this country of ours.  That is our PRESS.  We no longer have a press we can trust.  This is where the AMERICAN NEWSPAPER needs some HELP from our own government.  Maybe guys like Senator Grassley and this FBI guy Robert Grant need to explore this further.

Because of this:

Feds: Governor tried to sell Senate seat

“…FBI agents were “disgusted and revolted” by the evidence they heard on wiretaps of Blagojevich’s phones, said Robert Grant, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Chicago office.

The 76-page complaint describes efforts by Blagojevich (pronounced bluh-GOY-uh-vich) to manipulate state government to enrich himself and his family, use his authority to withhold funding for a children’s hospital until one of its executives would write a $50,000 check and intimidate the Chicago Tribune into firing editorial writers who had criticized him…”

Moguls who own the PRESS in AMERICA have the potential to suppress stories that are “a public trust” — and, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ THOSE STORIES to make informed decisions.

The entire industry needs to be reformed, Mr. Grant and Senator Grassley.  Because of things like this:

Tribune Statement on Blagojevich Criminal Complaint

“…TRIBUNE is America’s largest employee-owned media company, operating businesses in publishing, interactive and broadcasting. In publishing, Tribune’s leading daily newspapers include the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, Sun Sentinel (South Florida), Orlando Sentinel, Hartford Courant, Morning Call and Daily Press. The company’s broadcasting group operates 23 television stations, WGN America on national cable, Chicago’s WGN-AM and the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Popular news and information websites complement Tribune’s print and broadcast properties and extend the company’s nationwide audience. At Tribune we take what we do seriously and with a great deal of pride. We also value the creative spirit and are nurturing a corporate culture that doesn’t take itself too seriously…”

How does he really feel about Sam Zell?

It really bothered me when the New York Times refused to publish John McCain’s Op-ED.

No so much about the content of the piece, but that all sides have to be given equal press, don’t they?  The average American is getting their news from the web at this point, except?

It’s fragmented.  Isn’t it?

How are you going to know which bloggers are ethical unless you can trust the sources?

You know?  A lot of us who read the blogs have had to depend on ex-CIA good guys like Larry Johnson over at No Quarter to report on things like the WEB SCRUBBING going on in 2008.

Obama Has Purged His Own Web Site of Iraq Criticisms

Here is more on that:

EXCLUSIVE: Agenda disappears from Obama Web site

You see, the people who used to keep track of things like that were ethical journalists.  AT AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS.

At the rate they are being laid off?

We won’t have anyone left to REMEMBER OR REPORT and this is going to be a HUGE PROBLEM.

A HUGE PROBLEM.

Can you imagine more of what Blago tried to pull on the Chicago Tribune?

These are troubled times when someone can buy a paper, destroy it by gutting it of the ethical writers, no?

This political season has brought all that to a head.  It really has.

You know, it seems to me that the CIA and the FBI in America need the press.  I mean, without Reporters?  How are they going to know what is going wrong in the first place?

Zell Hell. Realized.*

You know, I care because I used to work for a newspaper, once.  A pretty damn great newspaper that went through this exact same thing.  It wasn’t part of this deal — but I sure do remember all the great people I worked with.

What America needs is its PRESS.

This is another industry that is “dumping” one of the most wonderful groups of people in the whole world.  We really need to stop what has happened in this particular industry.  Soon.

You know, maybe the FBI and the CIA need to be involved, Senator Grassley and Senator McCain — at the rate things are looking?

It’s bad.

It is a matter of TRUTH, JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY, after all.

And, I love my Los Angeles Times, by the way.  In fact today — they have Christmas ideas up in the food section over there –

50 ways to make your holiday gifts homemade

I know just how the people in the industry feel.   Once you have worked for a paper — there is nothing like it.

My heart sends hope out to the entire NEWSPAPER industry this Christmas.  In the hopes that our Senate is going to take care of these things.  That’ll be the change I can believe in.  I sure don’t believe in anyone from Chicago at this point.  Not anymore, post Blago and his “pay to play” —- or a web that allows a “SCRUBFEST” — do you?
