“There was nothing he liked so much as flattery, or, to put it more plainly, adulation; the coarser and clumsier it was, the more he relished it … His vanity, which was perpetually nourished–for even preachers used to praise him to his face from the pulpit–was the cause of the aggrandisement of his Ministers”.

Omnipotent narcissism, cultural wounding, Hillary Clinton and white feminism post 1960, election 2008…
August 19, 2008
If we view the self as a gestalt, a self that has not experienced wounding would appear as a whole circle? That is not the case for the tail end baby boom given its cultural experience in a post 1960’s America.
The early Second Wave Feminists of Hillary Clinton’s generation in white culture were proponents of women’s rights. Books such as “Our Bodies, Ourselves” made their debut in the 1970’s era when many tail end baby boom women were just children. If you go to the site you can see what the issues women were thinking of back then.
Our mothers wanted more for us, as women, than they had experienced. We were told that we could do or be anything? In 1960, the birth control pill was invented and you can read about that here in an article called “The pill that changed the world.”
My mother took the pill. She was born in 1927, and raised as a Catholic. The pill heralded a sexual revolution for women. They could have free sex lives for the first time and not have to depend on men to use the withdrawal method that the church taught.
At the time, this was part of what was called the “Women’s Liberation Movement.”
Here is an article from the wikipedia on Feminism and what its core conceptual ideas are.
The women from my generation of the tail end baby boom were coming of age sexually in a climate that was a sexual free for all. I recall my mother telling me that she would take me down to Planned Parenthood and get me the pill when I “needed it.” That was the end of our discussion. In my kind of family system, those things simply weren’t discussed.
So, even by the mid seventies when all my friends were first becoming sexually active, a lot of our parents hadn’t discussed anything with us, at all! We were on our own. Our information came from our best friends! And any books we could sneak! It’s very different now, I think. Except, one thing we are seeing is this incredible rise of the Patriarchate in very odd ways in America. For instance, the Texas Polygamy sect?
Taken from Polygamy: What now?
This election in 2008 has to confront its own denial of this very real demographic. The patriarchs at the helm are trying to impose a moral order on women that would strip the rights we have fought for in a post 1970’s climate…
The iconography in this article by Anderson Cooper shows what looks like a sort of feudal kingship city state? It has Medieval overtones…and very sinister connotations in a post-feminist world. As well as child abuse by Patriarchs.
This would be an example of the toxicity of the Patriarchy taken to extremes? By a religious sect…
