Ecopsychology — Depth Psychology — *notes — genogram timeline — cognition

So, yesterday we looked at the dynamic duo of Jobs and Gates and the new generation, in WordPress ala Matt, and all this “open source” stuff.  I want to go back to 1995 as a date and talk about my web experience just to correlate intergenerationally in terms of these thoughts on cognition for this thesis I’m writing.  So, this is what I bought at Circuit City, for Pacifica.  Now?  The difference was incredible because all of a sudden I could connect to the internet and do graphics at home and so forth.  People weren’t really using email yet at work, except for probably the systems department we discussed yesterday in 1995.

I think that 1995 marks an era we need to really look into.  Because different generations are going to be at different places depending on their ages in terms of that Piaget and development.

That is 21 years.  So, people born in 1995 are that age now.  How their cognition and empathy have developed is different than in the era before 1995.  My generation used computers for work or school?  The machine is not seen as a friend, per se?  Blogging has been good because of the social intercourse it creates.  But my blog is a container for writing?  So, I missed the computer games entirely?

Conspicuous consumption also matters to many in my generation — when we grew up things being built were built to last?  Instead of such radical planned obsolescence.

One of the things that happened at work that was incredibly frustrating was having to adapt to all the new programs the systems department was bringing in.  They would release an update, and everyone would struggle to learn it.  Very stressful era, it was — especially because we had a daily paper.  The systems department did not offer actual help in that era except a few people.  There was nowhere to go in terms of manuals or help like in your support forums here at WordPress.  So?  When I got the Apple it was so easy.  All of a sudden there was the web and things to find, research and play around with.

Something that has not been addressed is the wast amount of waste that all this stuff is making and that waste is landing in our oceans.  One look at the vastness of all this waste is pretty shocking.  You can look at the pictures of that here.

So, our culture has had to develop alongside this electronic “spine.”

If we go backwards in the genogram to the year 1975, we can see the beginnings of this.  But what have been the outcomes?  Human beings have become nothing more that widgets.

The pioneers of all of this above did not perhaps see what the rise of the spine would create?

They were too busy programming.

The worker in the cubicle did not realize the mountains of waste that were going to be created?

All of this was just going on, and on.

The top producers in the baby boom have not cared about human psyche at all — in their busy quest.  Most corporations also did this boxification kind of thing to the landscape too.  Architecture changed in the era 1975 forward with the rise of tall glass cube buildings.

The reason that I brought up Newton and Alchemy is that throughout history there have been times like this when the industrial grid has caused a collapse of the human spirit.  The last time was the Industrial Revolution.

Ours has been an age where people strove only to profit at the expense of the human soul.

Here is the Wikipedia on cognition

Cognition is the scientific term for “the process of thought“. Usage of the term varies in different disciplines; for example in psychology and cognitive science, it usually refers to an information processing view of an individual’s psychological functions. Other interpretations of the meaning of cognition link it to the development of concepts; individual minds, groups, and organizations.

The term cognition (Latin: cognoscere, “to know”, “to conceptualize” or “to recognize”) refers to a faculty for the processing of information, applying knowledge, and changing preferences. Cognition, or cognitive processes, can be natural or artificial, conscious or unconscious. These processes are analyzed from different perspectives within different contexts, notably in the fields of linguistics, anesthesia, neurology, psychology, philosophy, anthropology, systemics, computer science and creed. Within psychology or philosophy, the concept of cognition is closely related to abstract concepts such as mind, intelligence, cognition is used to refer to the mental functions, mental processes (thoughts) and states of intelligent entities (humans, human organizations, highly autonomous machines and artificial intelligences).

One of the things that this box created was a different way of interacting socially as people were herded and penned in the cubes?

So, we want to look at the genogram then in terms of the date 1969 as we looked yesterday and track the generation most affected cognitively.

1969 is also an important year when we look at drug use along the genogram, as well.  I have written about that before, but since we  are diagnosing cognition it is important to note the drugs used in this part of the timeline:

1969——————————————————————————————-2011

Parents who were alive in 1969, have given birth to a generation of children born in 1989 forward.  As we think about the scattered cognition in terms of his generation questions for research are this:

1.  How did drugs the patents took during the 1960′s affect the next generation in terms of bloodstream/DNA —– and then, how did the drugs that were taken by their children in the 80′s affect the children we are seeing born now?

In thinking about the genogram I see it this way:

Acid—————————————————–Meth/Extacy———————————————Autistic child in third generation.

1969—————————————————-1989——————————————————-2011

Is there a way to go backwards and diagnose that way through the bloodstream on this?

Would a chemist be necessary?

Is there a way to rebuild health back into the system?

How does toxic waste contribute to planetary health?

How do botox injections and other cosmetic surgery modifications affect this population?

How did the level of target-marketed prescription drugs apply to the generation born in the 1980′s and 90′s affect this outcome?

Here is a paper on Autism at this link.

If one in 100 is now being born with Autism?  What does that say about the year 1969 forward?

In Ecopsychology we follow the health of the system as interlocked with the health of the planet as a whole.

How are the chemicals from pharma entering the ocean and the food chain?

How does the waste from the plastic affect  the food chain and the ocean?
