PAX CULTURA — Ban Ki-moon — United Nations — Intervention — Depth Psychology — ANIMA MUNDI — The Genogram as a method for understanding World conflict in 2009…
My greatest hope for WORLD PEACE lies with THE UNITED NATIONS. And in Ban Ki-Moon.
Because I have been trained in Depth Psychology I view the problems of the world in a different way.
No HUMAN BEING on this earth is my enemy, because I know that each person has within them the capacity for good.
This is true.
When assessing for interventions therapists take a history, and so, what we want to look at are wounds. The wounds to the soul, or ANIMA MUNDI of the world depend upon HISTORY. The history of a people, or a person.
I want to give the United Nations a method I know — that they can use any way they want in order to foster dialogue between nations. I am writing this in English, but I know that there are translators who can make this be available in any language so that it can be for all.
I had written an earlier piece on using Socratic Dialogue and the dyad — where two people talk.
This time, we can use what is called a “triad” — Three people. The third person is the listener. This could be Ban Ki-Moon himself? The role of the listener is only to listen and then reflect back what has been said. For clarification purposes. Only listening. The two people in the dyad speak, in the presence of the listener. The listener’s purpose is to bear witness. This method can be used between nations and Ban Ki-Moon, as he is the highest Diplomat in the world at present.
If we think of the world since 1900, there have been periods of peace and periods of war.
If we think about this in terms of generations, as therapists do — let us begin by taking a history of cultures across the world. We would want three generations. The grandparents, the parents, and the children. We would need to begin by understanding what wounds are being held by the nation (as family) for each culture.
For instance, if we were to make a genogram that included WWII — the grandparents would be the fighters of this war. Their children would be the parents of the next generation of children. So that would be three generations. One of the things we understand when making a genogram is that outer events in the world such as war shape the family of each culture. Wounds inflicted in the psyche of the world are carried along these familial lines, within the family.
It would be good to have a leader from each nation in conflict tell a story to each other about their place and role in the larger schema of the world family, as well as their own. A culture’s nationalism is its own. This is true for all cultures in the world. The wounds each culture has suffered are their own.
The listener bears witness to these wounds. It is not so much a matter of making any decisions during this dialogue, but only bearing witness to what is said. It is only a matter of listening to the emotions present in the room.
As a therapist, I know that there are tears under the emotion of rage.
We must find the great pool of tears and bear witness to those.
Here is some information for the world about Genograms. The way that a genogram is used by a therapist maps the landscape of the human heart.
As a therapist I know that underneath aggression lies fear.
We must navigate until we find the the vast chasm of fear engulfing every nation on earth at this time.
Once we understand how fear is connected to tears since WWII and Hiroshima we can begin to make progress in understanding the world.
As a little girl I read Kobo Abe. As an adult, I cannot think of a finer book for ALL of the present LEADERS of the world to read and then enage in a dialogue over.
We have only all our world leaders to count on at this time.
And Ban Ki-Moon.

I will be gone for awhile this afternoon. But I want to thank you for this, as I run out the door.
There is much to talk about with you. Wonderful work you do here, Bonnaire.
